How to Secure a Steam Account After Delivery at Nexys

Published Nov 05, 2026

A step-by-step guide to locking down a purchased Steam account the moment it arrives: changing email and password, enabling Steam Guard, and what recalls mean for buyers.

Why the First Minutes After Delivery Matter

When your Steam account order lands in your inbox, the fastest way to treat it as yours is to take control of it immediately. That means changing the sign-in details and turning on Steam Guard before you install anything or set up a game library.

Buying a Steam account is allowed under our terms here at Nexys, but we want to be clear: account sales go against the terms of service of most publishers and Valve, and misuse can lead to suspension or permanent loss of the account. This guide is about locking down your purchase so you get the most out of it, not about promising it can never be reclaimed. Nothing can guarantee that.

Here is what to do, step by step, the moment an account arrives.

What Arrives at Delivery

Depending on whether you ordered a Full Access (FA) account or a budget-friendly game-specific variant, you will receive the credentials you need to sign in. That typically means a username or email, a password, and the login details for the recovery email attached to the account.

Check your order confirmation for manual delivery notes before you do anything else. Some orders arrive instantly, while others are prepared by hand and delivered within the time window shown on the product page.

How To Secure a Steam Account After Delivery

Work through these steps in order. Each one builds on the one before it, so do not skip ahead.

  1. Sign in on the official Steam client. Download Steam from the official store page and log in with the credentials from your order. If you were given a recovery email, keep it and its password handy for the next steps.
  2. Change the account password. Go to Steam Settings, open Account, and select Change Password. Pick a long, unique password you do not reuse anywhere else.
  3. Change the recovery email. In Account Details, choose Change Contact Email. Steam will send a confirmation link to the email already on file, which is the one from your order. Open that confirmation and set the new email to one you control. This is the step that most buyers rush, and it is the most important one: the recovery email is the key to every future change on the account.
  4. Enable Steam Guard. Steam Guard (two-factor authentication) sends a code to your phone whenever someone signs in from a new device. Turn it on under Steam Guard Account Security. Without a phone, you can use the Steam mobile app for codes.
  5. Remove any other trusted devices. Under Steam Guard settings, open Manage Steam Guard and remove devices you do not recognize. This stops sessions created before you took over from staying active.
  6. Verify your changes. Sign out completely, then sign back in on the same device and again on a second one if you have it. If Steam asks for a Steam Guard code and your phone app or email delivers one, the account is under your control.

Where Buyers Most Often Go Wrong

The step people skip is changing the contact email. If you only change the password and leave the old recovery email active, anyone with access to that inbox can request a password reset and take the account back.

Do not skip Steam Guard either. Without it, a stolen password is enough to sign in. With it, an attacker needs your phone as well. Treat 2FA as the difference between a locked door and an open one.

What Recalls and Rollbacks Mean for You

Even with everything changed correctly, a purchased account can still be recalled or rolled back. A recall happens when the original owner or platform reclaims the account, and a rollback happens when a game is removed from the library. These events are sometimes outside anyone's control.

If this happens to you, check the product page for the store's handling policy on that account, and contact support through your Nexys order with your details. Our refund policy covers legitimate technical issues, so keep your order information and any screenshots of the problem ready before reaching out.

If Something Does Not Work

If the credentials you received do not sign in, or the recovery email no longer works before you can change it, stop and contact Nexys support with your order number. Do not keep trying to guess passwords, because repeated failed sign-ins can flag the account.

The same goes for a Steam Guard code that never arrives. Check your spam folder first, then reach out. Most delivery issues are resolved with your order details in hand.

Lock It Down Before You Build On It

Securing your account takes about ten minutes and costs nothing. Change the email, change the password, and turn on Steam Guard before you start adding games or setting up a secondary profile. Those three steps put you firmly in control of what you paid for.
